ive turned the car off and restarted it and its doing it again.... turned it off after about 15sec
oh... its a completely standard 1.4 16 polo mk4
been fully serviced, next one is in 4k

dunno but looks like the coke around the butterfly was making a seal, once cleaned with carb cleaner it meant that there was a gap... hence the up and down revs, i believe
the old man put to tape around it just to make sure and started to idle at 1k
so.... is there a way to re-adjust the butterfly or sumthing or it is a case that its fecked!!!! cos it not fully closing, u can push it down.... and it will stay closed and the car will idle at 1k, but once u rev the car, and let it settle, the butterfly will AGAIN not sit down properly?????

A VW mechanic can reset the throttle body, so it relearns its closed and open states. He uses VAG_COM to do so, which means it's just a 5 minute job. They'll charge you though.
Don't know if there's a (free) "disconnect the battery and do a little dance" routine for this problem, but who knows.
