Is there anyone that's installed a light to the boot? Is it an easy job to do? Is there electricy supply which is suitable for it? What type of sensor should i buy to make it function only when the boot door is open?

I havent done one yet, although i would really like to.

I guess that something like a simple push switch, like the ones on the doors would do the trick, would need to check cleearance around the boot opening tho, just so you didnt crush the switch when closing the boot.

As for wiring, if its possible, i dont see any reason why it couldnt be wired to the same circuit/fuse as the cockpit light

Here's a switch that might help - http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... =&doy=17m3

Or there are loads on GSF car parts

Retro fitting a standard Interior light would probably involve a bit of panel cutting, but thats up to you. Ive had a look but cant find any of these at the moment.

Good lcuk and keep us posted :D

I would have thought something along the lines of a cold cathode tube would be ideal for this sort of thing, just stick it under the boot lip for some hidden yet bright lighting. Good choice of colours as well :) They're popular with computer modders, try www.coolcasemods.com or www.ebuyer.com. They're run off 12v sources with an inverter, so shouldn't be a problem to add into the circuit for the main interior light.
As for switches you'll just want a small push to break switch. You'll have to find a way of securing it at just the right distance from the boot lid to make it work properly, but it should do the job if you can get that right.

yeah I have a light in my mk2.... I got the +12V feed from the brake light switch, and used a boot interior light from a mk2 astra I think, just cut a hole in the side by rear seat belt reel. I then used a small switch that went under where rubber bump stops at the edge of the tailgate is.

problem is, i don't have much time to do DIY stuff unless it's worth it. not that i don't like doing it, but i gotta spend more time with family, dog, etc. and for the last 3 weeks i was always doing smth so i might as well go for a push-on light which runs on battery that i can get from a pound shop... what i really need to do is to fit the fuel tank i got from a breaker a while ago because i'm fed up of filling in £10-£15 max before it starts dripping... oh, also the mudflaps, but i need to take out the tires for that, so that one has the priority as well.

anyway, thx for the advice guys, that push switch from maplin could be very useful if i decide to dig in the scrap yards for an interior light from another car... i might as well get the switch from the scrap yard while i'm at it :)
