DOHC = Double Over Head Cam and most 16, 20, 26 and 32V engines are DOHC - well since the Triumph Dolomite sprint engine where somehow thay managed to drive all the valves with one cam shaft

SOHC = Single Over Head Cam and most 8, 10, 12 and 16V engines are SOHC

Other variations are

CIH engines Standing for Cam In Head where the cam is under the valve gear and Pushrod engines where the cam is in the block

Nice drawings BTW Horse

So to answer your question:

Yes, all 1.4 16v's are DOHC. There are different codes (such as AFH, AFK, AUB, AQQ, etc) but all 1.4 16v engines are basically identical.

Length of a bit of string.....

Cost of engine and box

Engine loom and dash

Exhaust system/ downpipes

Then there is the insurance implications etc - modifided

IMHO - it is always cheaper to buy the Polo with a 16V lump in it.

I'd stick with the GLX. Love mine, real head turner and they are quite rare.
Up to you at the end of the day

I've thought about it and to be honest i'd rather go 16V, its like an extra 20 bhp or something, uprated exhaust and suspension. (correct me if i'm wrong)
Plus i've had my glx for almost 12 months now and i just fancya change, i wont really lose any money on it either. So yeah if anyone wants a 97 P Black 1.6 glx in midlands or manchester then please let me know :) about 65K if i remeber right and the gearbox has just been reconditioned and i've put new shocks on the back.
