its actually not a good thing to have this rigidity in a car. you'd want to have the car shatter to pieces in an accident so the energy could be dissipated and not be transferred onto the drivers body. think of F1 cars and how easily the wings and stuff break off and fly in the air in small collisions in order to protect the driver from injuries. just a little materials engineering touch on the subject :oops:

and it doesn't look real from certain aspects. how is the rear wheel so into the cement? if its the impact of the collision then that should have broken the small window behind the rear doors as well... it looks as if the window is still there.

So you'd much rather have a car that fell to bits 'dissipating energy' than a car that could have a truck fall on it and stay in one piece so that you could walk away??

I'd have said that the rear tyre was flat and not buried into the concrete.

Anyway, nobody has said what is in the lorry. It might have a load of boxes on it. All the weight of the axles is on the bonnet not on the body of the car.

Yeah, bet the driver really wished the car had dissintegrated around him with a 10 tonne truck on top of him. :?

F1 cars are designed to go 200mph, polo's are not. :)

You don't *normally* get trucks driving alongside F1 cars, but I'm pretty sure if you did and one tipped over on top of an F1 car, the driver wouldn't be able to crawl over to the back seat and get out of one of the back doors :roll:

I think you'll find that's how they are designed, the front and rear of the car are designed to crumple to absorb the impact but the safety cage (the bit that you sit in) it supposed to remain rigid.

The tyre is made of rubber, and it's flat! The wheel isn't in the cement at all.

I'd stick to the 'materials engineering'

Yeah its a weird crash, cannot compare a POLO to F1 car FFS. I am surprised the windows are still intact, but hey the pic aint the clear so maybe they are shattered and held in place by the protective film???? I dunno but I still would rather a truck fall on my POLO then any other car ive seen smashed up. These crumple zones are actually at the front and rear of the car, not where you sit. A rigded safty cell in the cabin of the car is a GOOD THING I suggest the crash happened as the polo was travelling at slow speeds the truck just tipped and landed SOFTLEY on the car and the car was dragged back (see the marks in the road) the damage to the car was sustained only by the force of the truck falling over not an car - truck impact....
