hi my car has been running about 100oC on average on the temp lately even on the motorway, the compression has been checked both temp senders changed, water drained and refilled, new rad, only thing that hasnt been checked is the water pump but that is getting replaced on tues. Any ideas?

Well if you're replacing the water pump anyway - then we'll see if that solves it I guess!!

100 degrees is a bit on the hot side. My GT rarely goes above 80!!

Does that mean the fan is almost always on??

If the fan is only coming on that high then is it possible the guage is just over-reading??

Or, if it's a two speed fan - is it only coming on at the higher speed??

I think Gareth had to fiddle my temp guage cos it was reading too high.

should run at about 90. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME with a wax thermostat that isn't VW. I had 4 different ones including halfords and they were all useless until I got the proper one from VW, which worked perfect. VW parts are not expensive when you consider the effort involved in draining and refilling and bleeding it again.

It does sound like its just over-reading. If the fan comes on after a few minutes and then goes off again, then I wouldn't worry about it. Just check that your oil and water are not getting contaminated.

100?! 80!? jesus, mine only dips over 75 maximum even in town! i have to leave it sat for about 20 minutes on idle before it hits 80.

tain, either your stat isnt working or the black temp sensor is duff. They should read 80 most of the time, anywhere between 70-90 all the time.

Quite sure its the gauge over-reading, because of what he said about the fan coming on at 110. It should be on at about 100. Even when pressurised, the coolant will boil at 110.
