Hello everyone,

I've got two (related) questions, I'm hoping people know the answers to:

1/
Where can I get the sticky-backed felt stuff that dealers stick between dash panels to "fix" rattles?

2/
How can does the central dash part come off? This the large untextured panel that starts above the heating controls and goes all the way up around the cubby box.

Any advice would be greately welcomed,

Hey Deek.

I can't help regarding the central dash section but maybe I can help with the first one. I saw on the VAGParts website, in the alladin's cave bit, some "anti-rattle felt strips", "used to stop rattles and many other purposes! 80cm long 2cm wide 1mm thick. Cut it to length, peel of the backing and stick on."

I can't link directly to the item in question but if you go to www.vagparts.com, click to go into the online shop, go to product overview and then choose alladin's cave... you'll see it there in the list of items. It's £2.46 GBP for a roll.

Thanks for this -- I've ordered a couple of packs - I think I'll need them!

I've spent an hour or so working through all the past posts on polo9n.com, but despite lots of people telling others to use the search engine, I still can't find anything on disassembly of the central console.

From looking at the few pictures I have managed to dig up, it looks like it's bolted in under the cubby box, and behind the heater controls. I recall that the heater panel and the cubby box just pull off, but does any one know if there are any additional connections behind the radio or cup holders? Getting the radio out is easy enough, but how do the cup holders come out? Will I have to take these out before the console will release? Does anyone know?

Central console comes out this way:

- two screws behing the plate of the heater controls (just pull it off)

- two screws under the cubby box / shelf

- two screws behing the stereo / shelf

- two screws behind the cup holder and plate on the opositte side (this two screws are only for those who have centre consoles with cup holders).

The after all screws are gone you only have to press the clips on the heater controls. That's all.

As far I'm concerned I got ride off of the noises by filling the back of the centre console (the part that comes off) with some tarmac damping sheet that is used to damp car doors and boots. After that and a little box in wood for the radio it has no noises now

Sounds like it will take me longer than the hour I had hoped for, but I *have* to do it -- it's driving me mad!

From looking back through old posts on here, am I right in thinking that that "blank" cup holder just has to be levered out with a screwdriver?

Also, how do I get the cup holder itself out -- is it something I do once the radio / cd is out?

The blank space cup holder just come off with a screwdriver or something like that. For the cup holder itself you must take the stereo out; then you must press a clipe at the top of the cup holder from the inside and pull it off (don't be afraid to push a little harder ).

I normally use Blue-Tac to fix all sorts of rattles! it works well and its cheap!
