Hey all, this is my first post on the forums so a big hello to you all!
I am considering a new polo, I am thinking of a 1.4 SE with all the toys.
One of the toys I was thinking about was Sat Nav, has anyone got this fitted to their car? Is the OEM system any good?
Also, has anyone got any pics of the system? The ones in the VW brochure are not that good.
Thanks all.

I'd like to see some pics of the new Polo sat nav system too.
Apparently when you order the sat nav you get a display in the middle of the instrument cluster too, would this be that full red display that you get in Golf's etc? MFA???

officially you can only get the MCD in the polo when you order it
if you order the MCD with your car you will get the red display in the instrument cluster
you can also use the MFD in the polo
officially the mfd costs about 1300 pounds, but you can normally get it for about 600 pounds
you can get some pictures here

, i included the best pictures here if you dont want to check the messages at this link
this is the display
this is the mcd
this is the mfd

something interesting
the mcd has tmc built-in (tmc means that your navigation systems knows about traffic jams, this information is send like the rds signal with radio stations)
the mcd can also play music cds, you only need the map disc while you do the calculation
the better looking mfd needs an extra unit to use tmc, but then it can even get tmc if you dont listen to the radio or if you have a radio station without tmc, becuse this unit will check all radiostationsin the background for tmc signals
the cool mfd also cant play music cds, so you will need a cd changer (or confine yourself to listening to the radio)

oh, something else...
you can connect a TV tuner to the mfd.... then you can even watch telly in your tough new polo

So if I don't order in the sat nav, can I add the clocks with red display in the middle at a later date? Or is there extra wiring involved?

You can only get the red display if you order satnav with your car....
there's one other way as discussed here
http://translate.google.com/translate?u ... uage_tools
(the guy there got his for 40 pounds on ebay)
you can replace the complete instrument area, including rev meter, speedo etc... with one from a car that had the red display..
but you can only get them cheap if there was a polo with an accident...
even then some things ahve to be changed with vagcom (carcodes, miles, etc...)
but you dont really need the red display for navigation, although its easier with the display...

Thanks all for the reply.
I have decided that I am going to order my car within the next few weeks, and I will go for the Nav system, I have to travel a lot for work so it will be a great tool.
I have decided on a 1.4FSI SE with a few options.
I am going for black, with the light beige interior... should look rather nice
Thanks again all

I'd take the alarm system too. I'm not sure about the MCD, but the MFD seems to have to theft protection (removable plate etc.) so an alarm system might be useful to discourage thieves
