Theres something up with mine where if you try and start it 15mins to 2 hours after it previously ran, it takes Ages. Like 30seconds cranking it over or something. It starts first time usually though (it just takes a while) Anywhere outside the 15mins to 2 hours zone it starts fine (but does require some delicate throttle work to keep it going in the mornings)
So basically theres probably very little you can do to solve the problem. Im not sure what the situation is but Id guess that quite alot of mk2s suffer from this problem (my old one did too)

Mine used to start perfectly from warm, until I screwed up the ignition timing.. takes a little bit of effort now. I also used to have problems when the carb was very badly set up, might be worth checking out either of them.

hit the nail on the head, i haave found out from much messing about that the polos like to be set up very carefully. i've spent the past 2 years messing with my timing and carb set up.
if you set it to the book (haynes manual in my case) you should have no problems. I'm rechecking mine when i build it back up again so i will let you all know as mines a flying machine at the moment
Oh yeah and check spark plug gaps aren't too big as remember things expand when their warm.
