Need help again...

went to my car after work today, put key in lock, turned key -- nothing happens -- turns freely both ways, but doesnt unlock the door

opened the door from the other side, drove home, then ripped the door to bits to see what was up. I think ive found the problem, this bit dropped out

Image

i take it the bit indicated is meant to have something attached to it ??

So, is this bit readily available from VAG? and how easy will it all be to repair - me and a mate tried to take the handle off for a better look but couldnt do that either !

Any help is much appreciated

I had the same prob when i bought my mk4. I knew this guy who worked for VW. Apparently that bit twists as far as i remember to lock/unlock. For me it was similar and i had to have the complete barrel replaced - as that part came with it i think - this was 1yr and a half ago. I got it done for £40 and the barrel was replaced in accordance to my existing key so that my existing key worked on it as well. hth :)

Hey guys, you can just buy that part that has corroded away from any vw garage, it costs about 50p. its called an excentric n takes about 5 mins to fit, then you'l have a perfectly good working lock.
hope that helps?

Yeh, i did this the other day, but the excentric for the mk4 has been replaced with a mk5 item, and apparently that requires lots of other little bits for the mk5 to go with it

i wasnt going to ask questions anyway, as i dropped most of those bits into the doorskin anyway! all in all, it cost 14 quid or so
