Aftermaket Headlight Bulbs???

Hi
In the joyful weather this morning I noticed that my trusty headlight bulb has given up the ghost and therefore I have decided to opt for some aftermarket alternatives to the standards.
Does any one have any suggestions of what to go for? I need them to be legal (I had neon sidelights that attracted some unwanted attention and were a pain for the MOT), possibly have a blue tint and that are going to show a improvement on the standards.
I think I had some Phillips in my old BMW and they were great but really unsure what to get
I dont want to pay a small fortune but do want something that look the business and perform.
Any advice, including sizes (I have a Wreg 1.4 16v) would be great.
