Rattling gettin on me nervs!!

got a rattle from the break pads.... or somewhere there for deff.... because when i put my foot on the break a little..... the rattle goes! :o

its when i am going over bumpy serface, and generally all the time!?

any help on the matter would be nice and if it is solved.... a hand shake is gonna be coing your way! :P

I have this too. I've tightened everything I can find that can be tightened but no avail. Next step is going to be replacing the discs and pads for my VWII setup and see if that helps things..

im going for grooved disks and geen pads,.... got to get the bling look going!! :D

jus wanted to get rid of the rattling noise for now thats all! pain!!

all you can c is me polo going down the beach, all shiny, but still u can hear it rattling about to fall apart it sounds..... haha... :?

Is there no shim kit to hold the pads where they are?

I had this too, noticed the little metal clips were bent slightly on the calipers so bent them back and it quietened down a bit but now i have new disks and pads its gone altogether.

My little clip thingeys have had a bit of a time of it, they've both been lost, buried, sat on and bent more times than is decent, is this likely to be what's causing the rattle? I presume you get a replacement set if you buy a set of brake pads?

you've got me wondering about mine as well now - they always looked a bit dodgy and loose but thought nothing of it..... :)

Yea you get new ones with new pads, i bet when you take yours off the bit in the centre is bent. (you will know what i mean when you take em off)

Grooved discs and the Greenstuff pads is a s**t combination apparenty. If you've got the VWII calipers (i.e. vented disc setup) just use the OE quality (Zimmerman or Brembo) discs from GSF - they're what a lot of the G40 lot are using, in conjunction with Raicam pads (available from Pitstop Developments). I've just got the OE Pagid pads on mine and it stops pretty well.

To those of you with rattly brakes - the retaining clips are essential, but on my G40 setup I still get a bit of rattling. It's the pads moving up and down in the carrier, as the carrier itself is slightly worn. My local garage put a spot of weld on the previous set of pads I had to take up the play. The current OE Pagid pads are fine though - so maybe the previous pads were just s**t.

i've had Tar.ox monza discs and EBC Greenstuff pads now for almost 18 months and i've never been in a car that can brake so well and take at least a good 30 mins of constant abuse before they start to fade.

Couldn't be more happy with the setup and think it works really well on the polo :!:

if anything, using the MkI Golf setup if your getting really serious you can even up grade to the Tar.ox G88's which i will be doin soon so i'll let you all know how that works out.

it was just a quick idea.... haha, all i want is for them to look abit betta, i know the breaks are s**t, but after 2 years.... think im used to them now, so any SLIGHT improvement will be good, but if they stay the same but look better.... im a happy chappy!! :P :P

Are you using the VWII vented disc setup or still on solid discs?

On the vented setup OE discs with the Raicam pads are definately the way to go. Krupa on here recently swapped his Greenstuff pads for Raicam ones with OE discs and noticed the improvement. I did a lot of research before just buying the stock stuff, but when the guys at Pitstop Developments recommended OE stuff I wasn't going to argue as they see a lot of VWs go through their workshops (especially G40s!).

Grooved discs aren't really of any benefit on a road car - they're designed to help clear brake dust and gases from soft compound brake pads that are used on race cars. If you're not using the vented disc setup, upgrade now - the calipers shouldn't cost you much!
