When getting out of the car, and touching the drivers door to close it, i sometimes get a small static shock, this happens after playing music with the sub on...
Does this mean a poor earth connection?? Im guessing it does?

today i changed my head unit. turned out that the rca outputs were faulty.
however..... i still had the same problem. so i changed my rca cables and the engine noise has gone!
now there is hardly any bass in my sub, and the sub moves more than it should when thr stereo is on!
it's almost like distortion. ive tried 4 different amps and 2 head units and still no luck!
guys.... try changing the earth strap from the bonnet to the wing. i used a piece of 4awg wire and i got no static or interference.
hope that works.....

you've got alternator whine try getting a supressor that goes onto the alternator... or check your cable routing dont run speaker cables next to power cables etc or rca's like you said can also be a problem.... and static shock my way round it is to late your girl friend get out first so she gets zapped or just push your door closed by the window

when you get out you may be skiding on the seat material which generates a static charge
try putting one foot on the floor while holding onto the door frame when getting out
the whinning sounds like a possible ground loop
