4 speed box...what oil

i need to keep our 4 speed box going till i find a replacement, what grade oil do i need and how much

btw...cant afford any fancy stuff sinse the box is dying

should be plain 80w90 gearbox oil so far as i know, dude. you'll need three one-litre / one-US-quart bottles (whatever your place sells it in - mine was the latter, oddly) and they're not too much, like £2.99 a bottle?? Mine came from GSF i think, and had what would have been a handy filling spout if the whole thing had fit down beside the transmission ;) --- as it was, had to use a chopped length of hosepipe (more usually finding service fitting spark plugs to their threads) and a big funnel..... and a lot of patience.

it's got some other fancy code name as well but im sure 80w90 will see you right. remember though that such a high grade weight means the stuff is like treacle at room temperature, and toffee in the british outdoors. I found it very, very helpful to soak each bottle in a big bowl of near-scalding water for 5 mins before pouring it down the hose, as it was then only as gloppy as regular engine oil.
