rear wheel bearing...

hi there,
i own a Mk2 Golf GTI, and i just bought my wife a nice wee black Mk5 polo. i think it was a pretty good deal, 1997, 80,000 miles, just passed an MOT last month, £850...
drove it yesterday to discover that at speed (50+)... there was what i can only describe as a 'high-pitched humm'.... and if turning to the right, it got louder, while turning to the left it got quieter...
i suspect that the driver's side rear wheel bearing might be worn out or knackered...
does anyone know if this is a difficult/expensive thing to fix?
thanks.

not sure with your model, but on the
GTi the bearing is supplyed as a compleate unit and simply slips on! the whole job shouldn't cost you more than £40 if you do it yourself. £850!!!!! what condition and engine is the car? that well cheap

thanks for your help!
turns out i'm a dumbass... it must be a mk4... 1997... its just a standard 1.4L... but £850 still sounded like a good deal to me! [he wanted £1000 for it, but i find that turning up with cash always helps!]
but you reckon about £40 for the bearing unit? that sounds fine. i was worried there would be more to it than that... i was suspicious of the price... and that made me worry!

Hope it sorts out your drone..... It halved mine but I'm sure I need to do the front nearside now to get it fully quiet
