Scirocco wheels on a polo

Hi everyone, i'm a new to the forum and i could use some advice...
I bought some scirocco scala alloys and now i'm having second thoughts about if they're gonna fit on my mk2 squareback, from what i've read on uk-polos and anything else i can find, the wheels would have just about fit being 6x14 with 165/65/14 tyres, although when i measured the wheels they seem to be 7x15 (although they're marked as 6x14)
these are the pics of how i measured them...

and...

I really hope i'm measuring these wrong and these will fit coz i think they'd look ace on my polo.[/img]

yeah, follow wot it tells you on the wheel. when i measured my 15s on my mk4, they came out as 16, and my mates 13" came out as 13.5"
and i take it the mk2 had a PCD of 4x100

If it's a mk2 coupe they'll fit no problem, if it's a hatchback (squareback) then you'll need fairly low profile tyres, and you might need to get the rear arches rolled.

yeah, that's what i was worried about,

it is a squareback but i'd like to avoid doing any major changes to the arches, i thought i'd read groovy say that 165 just about clears the arch so i was hoping they'd be okay...back to the drawing board then, guess that explains why i've neva seen a hatch wiv scirocco alloys.

Ah, yeah, that's on 13" wheels like mine. You'll almost certainly get away with it if you use low profile tyres, especially if you don't tend to carry passengers in the back seat. The only time I had problems with my tyres was when I was using wide, high profile tyres and carrying passengers / heavy loads in the back.

Cheers mr Carrot

guess it'll just have to be a bit of an experiment when i buy my tyres, if it does work out then i'll be posting some pics up in a month or two.....or i'll be selling sum scalas lol.
i'll post sum pics up of my car so you guys can take a looky.

Well lets see if we can help

You've measured them wrong - sorry but it's an easy mistake to make

Need to measure from the bottom of where the tyre fits to the same place on the other side

Same here too it's the inside width that tells you the rim width not the outside edge to edge

They will - only thing I'd worry about is rubbing on the rear arches!!!

take an inch off your mesuerments
you can get 175/60/13 with out touching the arches i have 175/70/13 on golf mk3 wheels lowered 40mm and i only have rubbing at the front due to the wrong profile tires, but at the back you should have no trouble

175/70 is fine normally but rubs on the rear arches of a squareback when you have a load in the rear of the car. Can probably be cured by rolling, but I certainly never managed to cure it by hacksawing lumps out of my arches (I'm a true pikey at heart

)

theres very little space inbetween the arch and the tire but sofar i have had no trouble with it rubbing even with a boot full of tools
what wheels did you try?

This was on mk1 golf gti 9 spokes, 13"/5.5", ET38. They're fine now on my 165/65's, plenty of clearance, but they would rub on my 175/70's, even with a section of the arch cut away. Only with a heavy load though, and only when going over bumps once I'd got the arch trimmed.. still, it unnerved me listening to my tyres being scraped away like that so I got them changed.

So cool

And yeah, I'm sure they'll be fine, just make sure you get low profile tyres, no wider than 175, and perhaps get your arches rolled just to make sure.
