I'm considering buying a mk5. The car is in mint condition but something the seller said worried me...." The car is good, I have had it checked out by my local garage and was advised the only thing of any note is that some bearings may need replacing as there is a roughish sound when driving."

I know nothing about cars and that sounds expensive to me. Does anyone have any idea of the sort of costs involved with replacing bearings? If you were to buy this car would this put you off?

thanks.

I think you'd have to take along a mate who knows a bit more about cars!

if you're talking about wheel bearings then they are easily sorted.

but if its a gearbox problem then I'd walk away...

In any case there are plenty of mk5's out there, I'd wait until you find a good one!
