morning gents :)

I have just become the proud new owner of a metalic silver mk5 ARC engine polo GTI :)

has all the standard bits but I waited patiently and was lucky enough to find one with the full leather interior as well :D also has a clifford concept 600 alarm, stainless steel exhaust (big loud for me- might go back to standard if i can bothered) Smoothed tailgate, debadged and smoothed bonnet. The original BBS splits have been treated to powder coated centres and they actually look REALLY smart like that (sort of like the old mk1 golf sportline alloys)

Its mint, has 56K on clock with full VW service history. a STACK of receipts and plenty of tax and MOT left.

best bit? I picked it up for £4'400 :)

I will get some pics done end of the week and post up :)

I think the ICE mayhem will be starting on it soon (in case you hadnt gathered from the ID- im a bit of a audiofreak!)

:D

Ladies?? where? :D

ooppss- two posts and already sounding like a pervert

*puts the smarmy Faz back in the box and leaves nice Faz out to mingle* :D

Yea It was a bit of a bargain, It has a few minor niggles (temp sender unit, leccy window switch) but I work for Euro Car Parts so i get parts cheaper than trade price!

eg temp sender unit price from VW about £20.
euro car parts retail price - about £16.
euro car parts trade- £11.40
euro car parts staff price- £2.47 :D

somethings my job will come in handy for now!!

cheers inders :)

I dont think i will be doing anything else to it cosmetically, the rear bumper could do with a respray and perhaps the alloys with a refurb due to the laquer peeling around the polished section around the outside of the rim. (although i believe this is a common problem?)

My main concern is going to be performance and audio. I must admit though- i havent heard of many of these polos that have been modified to go superquick? Any hints or tips that could be considered? bare in mind this will be a daily driver and i dont want to go mad on it for all out abuse! (yet! :P )

Im in the planning stages of my install at the moment. will be a very simple set up as im a little tired of too many amps and subs.

What I have in mind:

alpine IVAD301R flipscreen head unit
Genesis 5 channel amplifier
Either Resonant engineering 6.5's or Crystal 60.5 component speakers up front.
Phase Linear Aliante 12" subwoofer
will possibly be lazy and buy a prebuilt nearside stealth box from autoacoustics or do it as i should and normally do by building myself- havent decided yet!

cables, sound deadening blah blah etc. will take a week or so off work to do it all properly. :)

always nice to find someone who appreciates decent kit!

I was running some serious sound in an older install I had in my punto ([shameless plug]which is currently for sale :p - pm for details[/shameless plug]) but the audio was all stolen

It just under 1 Cubic foot sealed. the SE12 is running at 2ohms so should be getting about 600w. I like the sound lots, Its very loud and clear, It took me awhile to get it all balanced out.

Only thing i dont like is the weight, im sure it must slow my car down.

If you want any info on running cables thru urs or anything let me know.

Sound in the polo is pretty good already i find! Although.......

I use to Have Kenwood 9000 series headunit, with kicker solobaric 6x9's (very hard to find) kicker 200.2 amp, Kicker L7 15" solobaric 2000 comp sub (£ 550.00) Rockford fosgate D1000 amp to run it with bass boast and graphic processor! (serious bass)

Now ive changed it all to suit the car more! Sony 9900 dvd headunit with tft screen, 7" centurion tft screen in glove box (cos they are useless for anything really so small) Alpine MRD amp with type R 10" ,veba dvd player in boot with ixus and pheonix gold cable! 4 gauge power cables to run the lot! in custom boot build!

(Reason for change i really needed some boot space)

That's what I like to see other's using RE Audio, I have an SE12 in the car I have now, and am very happy with it, once I get my Polo GTi I'll be going with a XXX15 in a ported box powered by the new RE Audio amp and XXX 6.5 comps,

And your polo sounds well nice Bass Mekanik, bargain price for that spec, cheapest I've found is £5,795. and perhaps you should consider an RE SE12, they have amazing volume, I achieved 134.3 in a sealed box with 400watts RMS at 2 ohms.

Ive been doing audio for about ten years and have been through most brands that i can think of!!

I thought about the XXX comps but you NEED to run them in a sealed or ported kickpod to get the best out of them otherwise it really is a waste of money and they wont perform right- the standard RE6.5 comps are designed to run infinate baffle hence best for standard locations.

I have heard an SE and plenty of RE subs- thought about a XXX but would involve too much work to get the power right. (split charge, welding brackets in engine bay for larger alternator, 0 gauge cable etc) plus for the sort of port tuning i would look for (around 35-38htz) would mean enclosure would be huge- I dont fancy loosing the whole boot in this car as i always seem to do!

Reason for an Aliante is specific, small enclosure responsive SQ subwoofer, SQ of the XXX is spot on but very slightly clinical sounding sometimes- its almost "too perfect". I love the aliante as they have a little more colour in the sound - very accurate but feel warmer than the XXX. not to say i dont like the RE- far from it, i just think its better suited to a "louder" application.

I think my best recorded score was 142db on a termlab mic. was running three MTX thunder 6000 tens at the time with 600RMS up their backside  have had loudder installs since then- but never bothered getting them measured:)

To be honest I still have an avid interest in Audio, but when it comes to the big systems, i just dont have the time or energy anymore! (god i feel old!!)

XXX15 Enclosure size for ported if I remember right is 4cuft, so it is pretty big, I don't know whether to go with XXX comps or RE's yet I'll have to get some more info nearer the time, it'd be seeing about 1200RMS so would sound pretty nice.

Look forward to seeing some pics of your car up on here.
