Whopper of an electrical storm last nite. Started about 2am and was still going at 6am. Not just your usual crappy UK thunder & lightning, this was the real thing, fork lightning, huge claps of thunder which set off car and house alarms, then eventually the power went out for a couple of hours.
Kept me awake most of the nite but was worth it.

damn, that would have been a killer experience to come out of work (at like 4.10am) to...
think its cuz the summers hotting up, the southern warm fronts hitting all those mountains and arctic air masses = big electrical charges

Bit muggy here, but no sign of a storm at all. Clear skies and lots of sun

sod
i stopped my outdoorsy stuff because the clouds were drawing in and the temp dropped a couple degrees (still warm and muggy tho) ... unplugged the PC, all that stuff. got nothing for the trouble - a few spots of rain that looked like a single spin of a garden sprinkler and two very distant lightning flashes and that was it.

we had nothing in derby.
the atmosphere was very close, then the wind picked up, and the sky went that dark brooding colour, very eerie.
We had a few rumbles, the odd flash, about 6 raindrops.
Then we hear that literally all around us, ie, west midlands, south yorkshire, lincolnshire etc have had it really bad! 6 people SWEPT AWAY in flooding on the moors, (all rescued), localised flooding in sheffield/chesterfield area, also flooding in shropshire/wolverhampton regions.
But bugger all here - kinda disappointed in a way, as it might have made sleeping easier having a cooler night, but kinda glad we didn't have it too!

we're due thunderstorms down in kent sometime today. its very muggy here but no big amounts of cloud! although the sun isn't out, its kinda stuck behind a hazzy cloud!
had a great thunderstorm a few weeks ago, best we have had in ages, but didn't nock out the power! shame. went on for hours though.
