Just about to purchase some 17" x 7 alloys with 205/40/17 tyres for my 2000 Polo. Fitment is ok with, et 38.
Just wondering if theres any problems with putting these alloys on? Will they rub when full lock? Will I have to adjust anything?

Reversing Fast(ish) - Yes

back bumper lining with a full load sumtimes scuffs.

Its all easily fixed with a small area being grinded and hit with a hammer

Took me about 45 mins to fix all the rubbing problems / underseal

cool job! so it doesnt rub at all now?

however, lowering will cause problems, because ppl with 16s have rubbing... time to roll the arches

Hmm, I was gunna get it lowered by 30mm, will that make em rub or what?

I want to go 30mm... so i suppose i will find out sooner rather than later.

I dont have mud flaps ...but my mate has a civic (N Plate) when he put 15" on they dont rub - but when he reverses up hills/kerbs they fall off -wheel catches... so i presume the polo would do the same ? Well any car with bigger wheels than meant ?

30mm ... if its only ever got 2 people in it - is meant to be ok..

But you'll need then rolled if u want to actually use ur car

with ppl in the back, the mudflaps are a pain,

best to remove them...

So this 30mm drop stuff...

Is it best to go for springs and shokies as a set or would the ebaitch sportline 30mm springs be ok on stock shockies.....

If i lower it - is it defo arches rolled ?

30mm is fine with a bit of DIY archwork (ask polosilver)


but if u carry loads (ie ppl in the back seats)
it culd end up like this (see below)

Just ordered the wheels and the dealer said best not lower suspension if ur carrying stuff in the back (and being a drummer i will be!)
Ill post a pic of my car once i get my wheels!

Nah , im on standard shokies...

Ok Ok - If its sunny tomorrow i'll go down take a few pics show where the area that scuffs that needs hit with huge hammer to move it back 3cm. The rubbing on standard is not really that bad - ovi reason's you dont want ANY rubbing.

After hitting an area of 2cm * 2cm in the wheel arch and hitting it towards the back of the car (got me ? ) then there was no running.
See when you weld metal together and you get this kinda buldge - i grinded that down then hit it back with a hammer - undersealed it and replaced the inner mud thing (Not mud flaps - but the arch lining)

As i say - pic 2morro and it will explain much better !!

I need mine lowered - scared incase i get 2 much rubbing as i have a full load now and then It will be fun ... lowering is on hold till

A: I get the paintwork fixed (Scrathes . handles and spoiler)
B: New cluth fitted (One i have is shagged !! )
