Clay Bar

Friend of mine sent me some clay bar - it is used in the but not so much in this country except for concours kinda people.
Anyway - he asked me to do this test - wash and polish you car (then wax) after all that (if you've got the energy) put your hand in a plastic sandwich bag and glide hand (in bag) across your bonnet - what do you feel....lots and lots of grit (when I tried).
Anyway, even though you've done all this elbow work all you've done is seal in all the pollutants, grit, and other manner of of things into the paint surface.
So I tried this clay bar (after giving the car a wash (it's basically common clay with some other ingrdients) - you use it with a lubricant (and in the same manner as you would when you polish/wax), rinse car, then dry off the car - do the same trick with the bag ....blooming heck - the paintwork felt like polished glass - then you can polish and wax. It basically removes all the grit and other pollutants from your paintwork / clearcoat.
I'm told you only need do this twice a year - but the difference in finish is amazing. Also, it's perfect for clear coat as it helps get rid of unsightly swirl marks.
Meguiars do a kit which can be bought from Discount Auto Parts. I've used the stuff my friend sent from the US on the Polo and also on my Volvo...
Anyone else tried this - common as muck over the pond and looking at some pics of their motors, you can see why.

I want some too. The sad thing is, it's not known here
at all.
I'm guessing
www.Petzoldts.de has some, they ship everywhere. I just wish I could just pick some of it up on the corner Halfords' outlet.

It looks like an oblong piece of white modelling clay approx 50mm x 100mm and 30mm thick - you need to use a special lubricant (which comes in the packaging
Doesn't say it on package - it's pretty much known as clay bar everywhere, but in french: barre d'argile - you'll probably get a load of soil though
Anyway, the link I put in to fletchers - they ship anywhere in the world (free in the UK) - 2 day - 5 day - I'll get some for you speedlaw and Ash if you want and I can ship it from my office for nowt (yes really) - just buy me a beer sometime..
I use the maguiars stuf - and it's absolutely awsome - you'll be amazed how much crap it can take out of a clean car - let me know here or pm or mail me - I'll get some to you pronto..
Actually, I have a spare kit now from dtconcours - has the clay, lubricant, wash and carnuba wax - going free - mail me an address and it's on it's way...
Cheers,
Ian

Ian,
Your offer is unbelievable! Won't you get in trouble at your office? The Meguiar's Quick Clay pack sells for €19.99 + €7 shipping @ Petzoldts, so the 12 Pound Sterling (that apparently includes shipping

) is quite good!
Anyhow,
I've PM'd you!

Can't wait.
I got my Liquid Glass kit today, really pleased with that box full of cleaning goodies. I've also bought some Lexol leather cleaner (need some more leather to be honest) and Vinylex (Lexol) vinyl and plastic cleaner/beautifier. Very good stuff too!
Cleaning is cool - let's hope the summer won't end...
