195/50 or 195/45

I've noticed that 195/50-15 are considerably cheaper to buy than 195/45-15.
I know that 45's are the correct size for a mkIV but would 50's be ok to use ?. Would the slightly greater overall diameter have much effect on the handling and gearing ?. Would the speedometer be out by much ?.
My car is only lowered about 35mm and is unlikely to be any lower so rubbing is not really an issue.

well the stock size falls almost exactly in the middle of the 2 so if your staying at -35 then go for 50 but on acceleration the 45 will have the edge and its is just noticeable also another tis is that if you like the streached look on tyres then use a 7 ince wide rim and 50 profile wont look as streached as 45 ass when i was using 50`s they didnt look streached but the 45`s look real nice imho and get quite a few compliments

They are to go on these G60 steels when I eventually buy them. As these are only 6J the stretched look isn't really important.

45's, hands down. It just looks so much better! I can't say from personal experience that it feels better too, but I'd bet on it.

Btw, you're getting something I'm very, very interested in. Love to see the result!
