Has anyone replaced the factory speakers with coaxials or components? There doesn't seem to be alot of room in the door.
Cheers

i have...
although i got bassmechanix to fit mine, a company in newcastle. they told me their is nowhere to fit speakers in the rears, not even anywhere to build a wooden mount.
in the front i have 6 1/2" speakers and they are in wooden door builds, that they constructed.

Cheers for that.
I am hoping that my local firm can fit some Image Dynamics in the doors, but do wonder if I might be better off forgetting that and putting some 6x9's in a stealth rear shelf instead.
Anybody got some thoughts on that?
Can you buy the plastic door trim retaining plugs anywhere?
Cheers

Bit of a fib.
I would have changed the rear one's in my last polo if i'd kept it.

do you guys with 3dr cars have 'holes' in the panel?

Well, AFAIR the card has a cutout for a grill which sits up tight against a plastic ring with a square outer (with a floppy sealing ring) that goes round the speaker (which is pop-riveted to the door) and fits between the two.
So there sort of is a hole, but it is covered by a square (colour coded) grill.
I haven't looked behind the rear panel, but am not hopeful there is much space there.

I ment to put a link in my last post
http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/v ... r+speakers
There aren't any holes for speakers unless you get the plastic frames for the speakers like i did in my last polo.
Aaron why don't you just make your own adaptors out of MDF?

i was told off the company who fitted mine that rear speakers would not go into the rears on a 3dr and vw couldnt provide any mountings, and they couldnt make any either.
now i realise they just couldnt be arsed!

that sound just about right from most VW's dealers. Have to admit it took a lot of error by VW to find the right parts think i must have been back and fourth about 6/7 times over a period of 3 months (just how long it took for parts to come in and discover they were wrong).
So that's what the inside of rear doors look like, will be a while before i replace my rear speakers let a lone front ones.

How did you guys find re-using the door card retaining clips?
And what does anyone think of using a Stealth Shelf/sub-box as opposed to replacing the front speakers? - seems to be less hassle???

Best to have extra clips, found that most of mine either had broke from the person who did it or i broke some when putting them back on.
I also had a stealth shelf. Dunno what spec your car is but I found in my 1.2 the weight of a stealth shelf & sub obviously weighed the car down and slowed it down. Not only that if i take corners (roundabouts) at a fast speed with all that installed the back would start to slide out.
still these are choices you must make
