Does anyone use cdr's in the VW in-dash 6 cd-changer? If so, do you have any problems playing them?

Almost all my music is on cdr's these days and the unit is temperamental with them to say the least - last night it wouldn't play any of them!

The manual says that it should play cdr's so i'm wondering if it's just the cheap disks I use (50 on a spindle for £10 sort of things).

Perhaps someone has experience of a brand of cdr that works nicely all the time?

I had the same problem with my one in my car now!

Sometimes it played them, them skipped on some tracks, then other times didn't play any of them!! Yet the single CD player never had a problem, so I told VW that I want them to swap the 6 CD with a single one and they said sure, it's all I need anyway.

I think the 6 in dash disc player is a good idea, but too sensitive to knocks and bumps etc

If you REALLY want a reliable CD changer the best thing is the under seat, or boot option, never had a problem in the past.

I use CD-R's and CD-RW's in my cd-changer, no problems at all. I use Verbatim's Audio MusicLifePlus CD-R/CD-RW's.

I didn't have any problems either, and CDRW's work fine too.
Try Audio only CD's (TDK/SONY are good, usually around 60p each) and burn them at a slower speed, it should be ok.

me too, no problems - but i use an Alpine six-disc changer

I have the standard VW 6CD player and there has been no jumping about inside (I wish! ) since I bought it. I thought that was one of the benefits of a dash mounted player I'd get the VW dealer to take a look...

the vw 6 disk is good iv tried using over burn to fit extra tracks on a 80 min cd eg: 85 ,90 min and it plays them all

Looks like it could be my cheap CDR's at fault. I'll pop out today and get some of these special audio standard ones and give them a try.

Make sure you burn the disks at the slowest speed that your drive can handle, the slower the speed the deeper the cut so to speak… if u burn at 1x like me you will have no problems with skipping, plus it will sound much better when u push it up loud.

The quality of disks I am afraid now has very little to do with it, the only real advantage of using brand names is that you get less DOA units than you would do with a budget producer, but you have to weigh the cost pros and cons up on that for yourself.

I get all my cd’s from work, we buy 60 with jewel cases for £20 and they are unbranded and 80 minutes, I have 240 spear at the moment ready for burning.

Try and make sure multisession is off, and check on how you burn the disks, if you are getting some problems when u burn them from MP3 then the best way is to convert them from MP3 to WAV and then tell the burner to burn the WAV, the software will then convert the WAV file into a compatible CDA format.

Sometimes if you go straight from MP3 to burning the PC will have to decode on-the-fly and this can cause some problems on certain systems.

I would also try a dry cd cleaner as it may have some dust on the laser; this is unlikely but always worth a try.

If you are copying your CD, then I would just try and make sure again that multisession is off and the disk is closed, burn at the slowest speed as u can, 1x is best.

In case some people don’t know copying your CD’s is legal, but only one copy and it must not be sold or distributed to friends etc.

As long as u copy it for your own use i.e in the car then there is no problems what so ever.

So, to finish this story;

I ordered some Verbatim MusicLife CDR's from cd-rmedia.co.uk. Got them, cut a disk, tried it, and same thing..... 'CD ERROR'

Yes, I know I probably should have tried this before, but I now tried an original CD and guess what? same thing! The changer is not playing anything - everything comes up 'CD ERROR'

Looks like it'll be back to VW to have its 3rd changer fitted One more problem and i'll be ripping the thing out and replacing it for a non-VW setup!

That's why I'm making VW put a single one in mine!
