Thanks yeah, the bodywork could be better but theres nothing that isnt fixable. Some of the chrome is quite delapidated and there is a big dent in the bootlid. Had a few running problems with it too (alternator given up the ghost after just 3 days of ownership, knackered fuel pump, dirty carb, dirty air filter, loose wheel, (my fault  ) suspension bottoming out (lowering springs and standard shocks, not my fault  ) So not the happyest chap with it so far.

It does pimp though, and its got the 60hp mk1 "GT" engine (code HH) and a manual choke. Just needs a 5-speed box and a bigger clutch, some carburettor tunage and electronic ignition if i can find the right distributor. Might put a standard 3F in there to make use of the saloons handling at some point too. As for styling it needs some better wheels (the car came with some 7 and 8x13 compomotives but theres NO WAY theyre gonna fit on the car. Im gonna put the 7's on the front of the GT hatch for some strip action at gti festival next weekend though. (theyve got some 539's on) Also some new shocks which may reduce the lowerage slightly but hopefully it will make the car more pleasant to drive. Might put that gt rear axle to good use as well. :D Oh and it must have some factory tinted windows; Lhasa green + green tinted windows = 8)

ahh thats looking neat Gaz.....

.. and in that photo I thought it kinda looks like mk2 Ford escort 1600 Ghia

I've just sizes up some clutches and the mk2 180mm has different mounting holes to mk2 190mm clutches, and they have different mounting holes to the mk3 190mm/200mm clutches, so you may have to change the flywheel too (if they are interchangeable).

Haha mk2 Escort = Kudos! It kinda is the ghia model as well, (was the highest spec polo saloon of the time) Just needs the vinyl roof.

So is the bolt pattern different on the 180/190 mk2 clutches dom? As far as Im aware the flywheels are interchangeable. Think I know where I can source one off a mk3 too.

Matt I got the roofrack with the car, One of the brackets is missing though and i didnt realise straight away so there are a few scratches in the roof now. Ive got a mk3 alternator to fit on it sometime next week when im off work. The battery ran out just ten miles from home after bvf. I was gutted. I got home in the end though (chris (logik) who was with me at the time called his dad and got him to bring the battery from his 1 litre along with a booster pack. Both were required for the remainder of the journey. (I think chris needs a new battery. :P  )

yeah the 180mm clutch has the bolt holes on pcd thats about 10mm less than the 190mm clutch.

I've got a 180mm clutch going very cheap though

and do I need to start locking my sheds of car parts up? coz if anything goes missing i guess I know who to blame.

is the splined bit in the centre of the clutch the same though? I fancied getting a 190mm one just because its the 1.3 60hp engine, and also its future proof (i e if I put a GT engine in at a later date which is kinda the long term plan for it then I wont have to buy another clutch, otherwise Id snap up that clutch off ya.

the mk2 and mk3 190mm clutches have different pcd's for the mounting holes to, so for futureproofing, ideally you need a mk3 flywheel and clutch.

yeah the splines for the gearbox input shaft are the same.

that colour is just gorge...... :) rich but understated

Its Lhasa Green metallic, and is a colour often seen on mk1 golfs. (one of the colours you can win a mk1 golf GTI on GT4 is lhasa green 8) ) You cant really tell from that pic (well i cant anyway) but it sports some colour coded indicators that I got from bvf for £8. Couldnt believe how good a match they were. (stole the colour-coded indicators idea off liz) It just needs some factory green tinted windows now which shouldnt be too hard to come by, and some more interesting wheels.
