Hi all

I have a polo 1.4cl v reg (not sure if its a MKII) as i dont really know much about cars!!

I have just noticed that my water level is right on the minimum mark. Do you need to fil this up with specail stuff? as it does not look like normal water. sorry for such a daft question but i just dont know!

Many Thanks

Chris

Hi, the coolant is a combination of water and antifreeze which you can buy at pretty much any accessory shop, garage, supermarket etc. If you only need to top it up to the maximum mark then you should be fine just to top it up with a bit of plain water. Whatever you do though, don't try to top it up when the engine is warm, let it cool down first, as the coolant system is pressurised and if you take the filler cap off when it's hot then steam will be forced out and will scald you pretty badly.
Just so you know, your car is probably a mk4 (if it looks like this: http://uk-polos.groovycarrot.co.uk/groo ... y/mk4.jpeg), or it could be an early mk5 (if it looks like this: http://uk-polos.groovycarrot.co.uk/groo ... y/mk5.jpeg). Good luck with it ;)
