bigger injectors?

Post by forbezGti »

hi guys was wondering if anyone knows or has put bigger injectors into there polo.
mate has a cossie and he was saying that he put bigger injectors in and it made a hell of a difference. would that be because its turbo'd or would this work for any car i.e the polo Gti.
any help please..

You shouldnt need bigger injectors really unless you have upgraded the induction.
Only really needed for Turbo'd and TB'd cars really.

If you cant get anymore air into the mixture, theres no point putting more fuel in.
That make sense.

o ok. well im getting a shed load of air in. got cold air intake with the filter behind the fog lamp and from the filter its just a pipe fitted straight onto the throtle body.so there is enough air i think. so do you think i could put on bigger injectors???
cheers for the help.

No mate.
No matter how big your filter is your TB is still the same size.
Im expecting the standard injectors will be fine with an ajustable fuel regulater, even with twin 40 throttle boddies.

Bigger injectors on a stock engine is over kill imo.
The stock injectors are not max'd out so upping the pressure would do the job fine.
But remember add more fuel, and you need to remap the ECU.

Is it ajustable?

Just be carful not to max out the injectors.
As I say, the ECU doesnt have enough self ajustment to cope with a huge increase in fuel.
so you run the danger of adding one of them ebay 'tuneing boxes' by running the engine too rich.

Its a tricky one mate, I dont think your gonna get any gains, without fitting a larger throttle boddie (I have heard of someone useing a larger mk4 gold tb.) and mapping the ECU.

Ive no idea mate, dont know anyone who has attempted it.
Be a trail and error job to be honest.
But again, I dont know if the benifits would be even worth the time/money.

What about a tbs conversion?
Only real way of getting any power outr of a GTi engine without the use of a turbo.

Depends how much you want to spend really.
The biggest cost is the ECU and mapping time.
I think Ive spent £560 so far on the Throttle boddies, air horns and fuel rail.
Linkages are £80, manifold will cost between £80-£200 depending who you know, although I am trying a spacer plate a friend of mine is making for me, to allow a direct to head (ish) fitment.
This should cost no more than £50 (again, another 'ish' here)
The standard injectors may be fine, like I say, but replacments shouldnt cost no more than £30 off ebay.
Then you'll need to change your flyby wire throttle, to cable.
You'd need to mount a trigger wheel (around £50 for the bits) to the crank for the timeing, and a bunch of sensors.
ECU can cost as little as £160 with a loom, if your able to map it yourself, or up to £600 for a DTA unit that most tuners will be able to map.
Mapping should cost between £300-£450
Im no where near ready for it all to be installed yet, so if we say there may be another £500 for problems I dont know about ;)

If you have the cash, and give Mr Bill Badger5 a call.
He offeres a supply and fit service.
I forget how much it is, I think it may be around the £3500 mark.

Should be good for 180hp on a GTi lump Id imagen

hey, i got the low down from bill, at badger. i was shocked at the price. the price he gave was about £2000-£2500 for parts and that was without fitted i think and defo without the remap. not going to go for the trottle bodys, going on hols with the bird so that drains the pennys away. but on the look out for a 1.8 20vt out of a right off, so ill see what happens. :?
