new tyres and wet roads don't mix

Looks like it could be the end of my Polo GTI experince. Wet road, tight bend and a bit too heavy with the right foot put me head long in to a tree. Other than dented pride and some minor whiplash I'm fine but the car looks fcuked. Hit the tree dead centre so made a mess of the car. Air bags didn't go off - do you have to be going fast for these to deploy? Anyway insurance assessors are looking at it tomorrow so will keep you posted. Might be some spares coming up for sale. Plus it had 4 new a539s tyres on it less then 4 days ago.

Sounds like it could be a write off. Sorry to hear it. At least you are OK though and that is the main thing at the end of the day.

The airbag sensors are in the chassis leg, so if you hit the tree dead centre, it wouldn't have touched it.

This is yet another reason why I refuse to use Yokohamas. I hear nothing but horror stories about them and wet grip.

Glad your relatively ok!

Keep me posted about the tyres, unless you think they contributed to you not staying on the road

Glad you're OK - like toXXin said, sounds like a write off :?

If it is a write off, no plans to replace it with another?

Sorry to hear, at least your ok though.
As for yokohoma a539 tyres i've never really felt as safe in the wet as i did with my old falken ze-512's
but then again its cost to change them all over to falken.
What are your plans? another polo? if it is a write off.

Regards
-Ben-

not sure what to do next might look at buying another one - or looking round at something else. the clio 182 cup looks fun but dread to think what my insurance would be on that now. at least i have 5 years protected ncd. have a little person arriving in Febuary so something a bit bigger and more sensible. Had test drive in a c2 vts today and was good fun might even consider the sporty oild burning skoda. not sure - will just sh*t faced tonight and hope for a moment of clarity in the morning. just praying they won't write it off as its been a fab little car.

Sorry to hear that mate, is your car a silver 4 door? because I saw one this morning in an Autonational rescue depot at New Malden, had a mangled front end, made me wince.

Simon, if you're looking at the Fabia vRS, do not forget that SEAT do a 4 door Ibiza Sport PD130, and a Cordoba PD130 that looks ugly but is even cheaper than the Ibiza, which is ridiculously cheap!

Yiiippppeeeee

Fcuking yes - The Polo GTI lives on to fight another day. Being repaired by Solus in the next couple of days and should have it back in a few weeks. Hopefully they won't find anything else wrong otherwise the over whelming feeling of joy could be short lived. Sorry but looks like the bits won't be for sale after all. These car are tough little buggers. Thanks for all you comments. I will keep you posted on the recovery.

PS - the beer nulled the pain lastnight but paying for it dearly to day. Sat in the office severly hungover but very happy.
