hi ppl,
im new to the forum, so hello to everyone on here.
i own a 94' match coupe, just recently bought it, my first car!
been working on it a little, but have a problem with the headlights. basically i changed the main headlights to these halfords xenon super brilliance ones, and they are brighter that the old ones when switched on normally, however when you pull the indicator towards you to activate the full on headlights (not sure if thats called dipped or what?) , but they just turn off! just the sidelights stay on, anybody experienced this? any ideas how to solve this?

Sounds like the main beam filament in the bulbs may have gone?

How long have you had them, I had a set and they lasted under a year so will never buy them again. Not impressed.

When the main beam filament goes, dipped beam will still work but when you put it on main beam the dipped filament turns off. So if the main beam is broken and the dipped is off you get just the sidelights showing.

Try a different bulb to test it, if that doesn't work it's a wiring or fuse problem.

sounds like dodgy manufacturing to me....

i've only ever had to change one bulb in the polo and it was a rear sidelight that i used a lot when parking

headlights still going strong even though they got a lot of abuse
(top tip for extra illumination when you need it - if you hold the stick in the "click" position when switching between them, both the dip and main filaments come on for as long as you hold it... voila... 120W headlamps, though you have to drive one-handed! but with 120w lights come 120w heat, in a 60w enclosure..)

Definately crap designed headlight bulbs methinks, as aside from those bulbs all I've changed is a brakelight and one normal headlight bulb in the 5 and a half years I've had my car.

Shouldn't be crap though, since they're £40 a set! I didn't pay that for them, but for that price you'd expect them to last longer than a year.
