I'm looking at gettin' a TomTom Go 500 for use in mine and the missus' car...... I was looking at the 500 as it has the bluetooth handsfree facility for the mobile.
Just wondered if anybody knew of anywhere that did any good deals on the 500 unit or possibly the 300 at a push.
Cheers
Dave.

I had thought about E-Bay but what was putting me off was that i got my Snooper from E-Bay and after i bought it i found out that officially Snooper class any product bought off E-Bay as used and therefore don't cover it under warrenty...... I think i managed to dodge it by putting the 'place item purchased from' as 'received as gift' but didn't want to get cought out again with the TomTom.
I keep checking on E-Bay but just wondered if anybody knew of any retailers who have the 500's at a good price.
Cheers
Dave.

I think I saw a PC World advert advertising it, not too sure on the price though.

After having a look around i think i will go for the 300....... Don't know why but i had it in my head that the 500's were in the region of 400 squids....... cheapest i've found is 469!!!!!
Don't think the missus will go for that when she can just get a bluetooth headset for 30 quid.
So if anybody knows of any good deals on the 300 Shout up.
Cheers
Dave.

whats a "good price"?
guy at work got a 300 for £269... from pc world or something... by telling them it was on offer for that much elsewhere
kind of spoilt it by laying down cash for a 3 year warranty though, and less than a week later is wishing he got the 500
i dont have a bluetooth phone though, and i tell ya... if the gps speedcam maps are any cop, and it really can do dynamic traffic reports... then im very tempted, at that price

That bit about him wanting the 500 afterwards is interesting.... Did he say why???
The only reason, to be honest, that i preferred the 500 was for the bluetooth handsfree kit facility........ I have a snooper S4 Neo so i've no need for the traffic cameras info..... They both seem to be TomTom Plus ready so could both get realtime traffic info...... I'm not sure, but i think the only other main differance between the 300 & 500 is that the 500 has UK maps & also main roads in Europe which the 300 doesn't...... But i'm sure if you looked you get those maps from somewhere.
If it is a case of the handsfree being the only main differance and the prices are indeed around £100+ between the two then i reckon i'm defo going to have to go for the 300 instead.
Cheers

something to do with the bluetooth capability
i think he didnt have a tooth phone before buying it but now his network have said they're going to upgrade him to one, and he's also got to the part of the user guide where it explains the things that your phone and the tom-tom can do to each other over it.
funnily the thing he was most excited about was using it as a handsfree kit - the phone will ring, the tom tom will pick up on that and display "incoming call" with number/name/whatever, and you can just bop the touchscreen to answer or disconnect, with the caller coming thru it's speaker and your voice being transmitted by the phone's regular mouthpiece. or something.
also something about downloading maps into the phone (although you can just unplug/de-stick the tomtom anyway and carry it with you for 4-6 hours of GPS walkabout), but mainly that he could use the 500 as the world's most expensive handsfree adaptor (when most phones come with them FOC these days)

That's excluding VAT though.... total price inc. VAT & delivery is £374.77 which is a fiver more than the RRP in the shops.
I've had a quick look round the main high street stores today and the cheapest i found the 300 for was £349 in Maplin.......
I'm gonna keep lookin for a 300 for defo now as i've verified that the only differance between it and the 500 is the bluetooth handsfree kit facility..... (and the fact that the maps that come with the 500 inc. main roads in Europe) They both have bluetooth so as to d/l info from the tomtom plus service, so tahrey i'm not sure whether your mate actually got a 300, sounds like he might have just got the old tomtom go which doesn't have the bluetooth facility at all.
Cheers

keep looking around then ... if this geezer who knows only an average amount about electronics can score it for a hundred quid less than that (without "knowing someone") then surely you can too!

Just bought a 300 today online from Maplin........... managed to get it for 330 quid with free delivery as they give you some on-line vouchers when you sign up for their newsletter.... Plus if owt's wrong with it i can take it into a store.
I could've got it a little cheaper on e-bay but the one's that ended this last week were all around the 300-310 quid mark plus postage so i'd have only saved a few quid. Plus we're goin' away for a few days next week and i wanted it to take away with us.
Cheers
Dave.
