GK SPECIFICATION

I got my GK engine today, thought id just tell you the differences as they often come up in posts;

-Pierburg 2E carb used with bigger venturi
-Inlet manifold has bigger rubber plate port and bigger ports that match the head [DOH! I should have listened to you Gaz!]
-Cam is more aggresive
-Higher 11.1 compression ratio

I know the engine pushes 75 bhp standard,
I reckon if you just used the inlet and carb you would see another 10 bhp on an MH or 2G engine easily!

Il get pics up soon!

One question though- the engine hasnt been drained and has been standing for a few [3] years in a garage, i am planning a complete rebuild- will it be okay because I know your ment to drain them?

11.1 compression ratio? That's pretty huge.. should have a bit of potential :D I imagine fitting a GT MPI setup would see a good few bhp more as well..

As for draining the engine, yeah, you need to drain it before you rebuild it because otherwise you'll take the sump off and oil will pour out of it all over the floor. Not exactly hard to take out the sump plug and drain the oil out of it though.. although the oil will probably be syrup after 3 years of standing..

and the plug might be a bit rusted tight ... lucky that it has the copper washer i guess.
how long can you leave coolant before it loses its magic anti-rust properties tho?

anyone know if they share piston rings with the later 1.3 CLs and G40s, as zombie was enquiring these of me in the for sale section?

so does it still have coolant in as well? as long as it has been stored in a dry place the interals wont have rusted much. A full rebuild is good idea seeing as it has been stood for so long.

Im planning on having a GKesque engine in the derby but Im just gonna mix and match parts (3F bottom end with HK head (flat like a 3F head) and a GK cam (same as what the HH engine in my derby has) probably wont have 75bhp but should have a fair bit more poke than its got now. Youll need some really good fuel in that engine.

for example.......?

well presumably it was designed to run on 4 star (98 RON) fuel. Which no longer exists. Closest to that with a RON rating is ESSO super (97 RON) BP ultimate and optimax dont have RON ratings but you can expect them to be similar.

are HK heads 4 star? Think your engine build will be mint in that derby- you need a oldskool head in a car like that :)

HK engine will run on 91 RON fuel I think. Its the compression ratio that makes all the difference.

Oh and to answer tahrey's Q the rings should fit (so says etka).
