Newbie alternator question...

Hey folks, I'm new here and have a question regarding the alternator light...
I own a 2000 polo 1.4 se 60bhp with 26,000. No beast by any means
but she serves me well. Recently the alternator light came on the
dash while driving, the power stearing then cut out and the engine
went dead. The manual says that this is probably due to the belt
driving the alternator being damaged or slipping but I've checked it
since and it appears to be fine. After the engine cut, I started up
and drove about 40 miles no probs. I dont want to pay top dollar to
get it looked at at a garage if I can get some good advice here, I'm also
worried about the same thing happening again...any thoughts? :(

Did some research into this model, turns out that a lot of people
had the same problem as me regarding faulty speed sensors. The
engine just cut out for no reason, fortunately I was under warranty
but heard others paid around 180 quid to get a new one installed
after cutting out on m'ways!!! :?

Hello there & welcome to the board.

Can you confirm what year of polo you have. Was it definately made in 2000? If so, I'll move this into the appropriate forum once I've got your confirmation.

Cheers,

Deek.
