Hi, new here.
Installing sub into my polo at the mo. When i came across the phono cable from my autoleads amp wiring kit, i noticed an extra wire on it. I guess this is an earth cable.
However, this small wire is about 5mm too short to connect to my hu. does this really need to be connected?
I do have another phono cable for amp wiring, but this one has no earth wire?!

doesnt have to be connected but it would get rid of any interfearance from your rca lead. I used mine for my remote wire

I thought that's usually what they are for, to be used as a remote wire, however if it doesn't fit, all you have to do is use another one, like I had to, just because the actual wires were so thin they were not making a good enough connection

i will try without it connected first, and see if i get any interferance.

It is actually moulded into the phono cable, so im thinking this is an earth wire. In the wiring kit there was a seperate remote wire.
The wiring diagram shows the power and remote down one side of the car and the Phono(RCA) down the other.

Mine was as well, there was a thin cable in between the 2 RCA's which is a remote lead, but as I say there just wasn't enough wire in there to make a connection - Didn't know they had earth leads?

its to earth the rca to get rid of static in the rca's. All good quality Rca leads have them

origionally used it as a remote lead but soon changed it.

It's defo an earth lead, but as mentioned - it's very useful to use it as the remote wire, saves running another cable
