new mods coming!

Post by SpikeyG40 »

just thought i would let you guys no that i have some mods on the way.

just bought some clear indicators off of ebay and they should be with me in the next week or so! the other item that i bought off ebay was some frosted clear side repeators! my plan was to get some normal smoked ones but these frosted ones i have never seen before and they look pritty cool!

also this month i am going to have to do my brakes! but i thought, might as well go for some better than standard disk and pads cause i am going to do it anyway, y not do it now! so i will be ordering some red dot 6 groove disk and red dot pads. can't be bothered with changing to better calipers, lets face it, it hasn't got the power! i'll have some pics soon so check back here to see them!

these are the frosted clear indicators, anyone else have them?

After almost being killed by a lorry on the way back from VWmania at 100mph, I can't wait to upgrade my brakes to something much beefier than the weedy non-vented Polo brakes...

If you are upgrading your brakes, you at least need to get the wider callipers to allow vented discs. It's a false economy spending money on grooved discs which aren't vented, as you wont see much improvement. The worst thing that affects the polo is brake fade, and vented discs reduce fading greatly. Vented and grooved or combi discs are the best to go for.

Looks really good.

I love it how small things make a big difference. Well to us as owners anyway...

yeah i was thinking about springs, but the dampers aren't much good so i was planning on dampers and springs, but thats not going to be cheap! have to save up for that, but its definatly on my list!

I thought that your car had rear arch trim, but the front was missing??? There is trim on the front wing somewhere though, right? or do some Polo's not have anything at all on the wings??

Ok, so as far as I can tell, G40 trim is the same as GT trim?? Cos I've seen plenty of GT's at breakers yards near me, so picking up a full set of arches wouldn't be too difficult, or expensive. Do you have a rear spoiler? Or do all coupe's have them??

I quite like the archless look, and if it wasnt so much hastle then I would take all my trim off. My Golf has no GTI trim left.. only plastic on it is the two bumpers, and the chin spoiler!!

Karl posted a load of links in the DIY forum about cheap mods you can do.. I'm planning on colour coding my door handles as soon as I get a remote central locking kit.

yeah sounds good! only gt and g40's have arch trims! all i have are the bump strips down the side. the reason i haven't got one on one wing is that the old wing was damaged, so i replaced it and haven't got round to putting the bump strip back on!

Ouch! just about see the bit of trim on the wing!
Image
see the lack of trim on the new one?
Image

all coupe polo 's have the small black spoiler on the top of the rear window as far as i remember!

sadley, no gt's in the breakers where i am, i'm going to keep my hopes up mind you

thanx for the advise! i am going to do a bit of colour coding myself, probably the lower part of the bumper first, but its just finding the time when i don't need to use the car thats the problem!

I've been doing stuff to mine while I still drive it about... When I colour coded some of the dash trim, I got new parts from a breakers and painted them so that I still had a fully functional dash while doing it.

I think that prepping and colour coding yourself will take soo much time and effort to get done nicely it would be more worthwhile buying pre-primered bumpers from vw.. thats what I'll be doing.
