mmmmmm! no electric toys like mirrors and sunroof,
eh, those things (lecky mirrors, windows, etc) only add weight and arguably reduce enjoyment though
well, i'd commit cold blooded murder* for a sunroof, but the principle is still there. not having one on the polo or the astra hasnt really harmed me, just focussed the skin cancer to my arm hanging out of the window instead of my head and chest.
my CL is, disregarding the radio, digital clock, and the ECU under the bonnet, a nice education in no-silly-frills motoring. You get down to the nuts and bolts kind of level (the wheel steers it, the pedals and sticks do other control functions, what else is there to know?) rather than being lost behind a swathe of frippery like aircon, multichangers, position-memory seats, big central screens that do satnav and control all different aspects of the car..... arrrgh

Fair enough on a luxo barge or family cruiser but not for something you want to have fun in (hello, BMW!)
if you want convincing though..... talk to logik.... he nearly talked me out of both the CL and the Astra
not to mention my pants and into a GT recently

As it happens i'd rather get my hands on your diesel, if its a 5 door, i think it'd straddle both bases quite nicely - practicality and a bit of extra passenger/luggage room, slightly better comfort and aerodynamics, much better economy (thats a big plus for me right now) and still performance probably in the area of the vauxhall (& better handling, i'd wager).
* not actually true, i'd need a damn good reason to do that, and somewhat more of a reward - probably involving absolution from sin by the pope - to go any further than a major roughing-up anyway.
