Interior light wires, where they go?

The wires for the interior light. Do they go down the RHS A pillar? I wanted to intercept the switched output with a delay device, that also turns it on when I unlock the car, like a BMW. I built a unit ages ago, just not got round to fitting it.

How small is your circuit, perhaps could install it in the void where the light unit is / tool for the sunroof, under plastic cover?

p.s. if this works, build me a circuit for £$ - would be nice having such a function with the light delay

Well its about 1.5" by 1", I can't install it in the light void, because I have linked it to the ignition etc.

Its Microprocessor controlled, it dims the light too!

It comes on when you open the doors, then fades out after 5 seconds. It comes on when you take the key out of the ignition, so that you can see in the car before you get out, and it comes on when you unlock the car.

I could make a couple of PCB's and you can have the chip, they cost pennies.

The only firmware mod I was going to make was to shut off the light if the door is open for say 3 minutes. As this often happens at shows and the airfield etc. To save power, and you could still override it with the switch on the light.

I made this circuit ages ago for my old car. It was really cool.

Still, we need to know which wire to put it in. Because, its not quite as simple, with there being an headlight reminder etc. Might need a diode.

The gti already does this, could you not use whatever that uses?

Not all GTi's do it, and some standard MK5's do do it. Its to do with the VAG alarm. I do not have the manuafacturer security systems, because once you defeat one, you can get round the others, nice to suprise a joy rider with random cables!!

You shouldn't be able to get round the VAG immobiliser, but unfortunately we all know you can. Polo's with comfort closing feature are less than secure if you know what to poke.

Also, because I write the firmware, I can make it do what _I_ want! :)

the problem your himting at doesnt affect the immobliser

Is it more a case of geting a wiring diagram then ?

no not really. It might help if we knew the color of the wires, but that part isn't included in the haynes. So its just a case of poke and seek.

Not at the moment. Am a bit worried about another aspect of my car. kept getting ECP and Check engine, read out MAP sensor on vag com, took sensor off, full of oil. So I looked to find lots of oil been coming up the breather. Took breather off, oil smoke coming up it. Doesn't increase with RPM, and compression ok, so could be either a gasket issue, or an exhaust valve stem seal. Either way, a pain. But the good news is that I think its always done it. Manufacturing defect.

Anyway, on the interior light front. Maybe I should get a batch of 5 PCB's made so that people can get on and fit it themselves. Basically, its a little microprocessor, that I can program and send out and it will have a bunch of wires coming off. I fitted the same design to my old polo so its good to go. I'll have a look on PCB train on the web and see how much 5 off would be. Pretty small, so probably just a few quid each.

Yeah we probably need to connect point (B154) They are wired together, looks like Brown and White and the driver side headlight reminder is seperate. :)

Will take a look again later.
