What car wax/cleaning products do you use and why? i use car plan shampoo and car plan tyre silk, the shampoo gives a nice shine and is easy does not leave any streaks and the tyre silk lasts me 2 - 3 weeks before i have to wash/apply anymore and then once they applied i apply a shine to the front splitter and mudflaps with a dash shine sponge which you apply directly, interior wise just wipe over with very slightly damp cloth to remove any dust if any or grease marks. :D all in all takes me a good 2 hours on a nice day. Then it rains... :(

As everyone knows I use Zymol everything www.zymol.co.uk yes it is expensive but the results speak for themselves.

Quite a few of the guys on here use this stuff and I can't recommend anything better. The polish does a superb job especially the 'concours' and it leaves a glossy finish that Turtle wax, etc, can't quite deliver.

Forget the price, go for a Titanium starter kit, you will not be dissapointed.

I've used Autoglym, which is pretty much all a guy could want. Easy to use, leaves a nice shine, lasts long enough. Shampoo was a dissapoinment though, as it's really thin.

Better shampoo's were Mer (nice and thick) and Sonax Extreme, which was excellent - left a good shine and it was nice to use.

Not too good were Turtle Wax Emerald series (see topic below), which was hard to use, left a nice shine but didn't last. No good.

Ian *the Main Man* just sent me a kit I have yet to use, but I have high hopes - it's from DT Concours --> www.dtconcours.co.uk and it's a multi-piece kit. That's Clay, Cleaner, Protectant. As soon as these exams stop giving me grief, I'm n/a due to excessive polishing sessions.

I strongly believe the best stuff has this setup - First you use a product that cleans, then use another product that protects. Any product that does both at the same time has to compromise.

Alternatively, I like Liquid Glass. It's not a wax, but an acrylic sealent that literally acts like a thin layer of glass that coats the paint. After using this stuff, water literally flies off. Again, first you use the provided cleaner, then seal the paint with the LG. This can be done in the sun, which is pretty unique, so the LG hardens quicker. After 6 hours of hardening you can add a second layer to add longevity.

The different between LG and most waxes is the type of shine they leave. Wax makes my car look a bit more dark, while LG makes the shine less deep, but more shiny - if that make sense.

My 2 Eurocents.

I use the Zymol shampoo from Halfords. Leaves a good shine and smells nice too :D I've found the Carplan stuff good as well.

Use Armorall tyre foam on the tyres because you just spray it on and leave it! Looks excellent, although doesn't last long.

I just use water and elbow grease on the wheels because they're split rims and i'm scared to death of using chemicals on them. Used Wonder Wheels on my Polo GTi's BBS split rims before I realised I shouldn't be which created a number of blemishes in the lacquer :(

The household glass cleaner made by 'Astonish' is absolutely wonderous but getting it can be a little tricky - poundstretcher type places sometimes have it cheap.

Finally, I use Mer for general polishing, removing scratches etc.

That's me!
