3F GT conversion to coupe s

I am planing on doing a conversion.

I have heard that generally the 3F GT converion to a coupe s is a good one? obviously once i have done this it opens me up to some good tuning options :D !!

I have also heard that one of the hardest bits will be the wireing, and obviously i will need an injection petrol tank.....will a normall injection mk3 tank do or does it have to be a GT one ?

Would be great to hear from someone who has done this conversion or knows about it ??

I have put wanted ad's on here also on porka.net and polo-gt asking for a sutible GT engine, my car went into the paint shop on wed and will be ready by saturday so if anyone knows of an engine for sale i have the cash waiting and am desperate. I live in Cornwall though so the closer the better or i can even pay for transport if its the right price.

any general help and tips about the conversion will be appreciated!!

The 3F engine is a good strong engine for tuning and not too difficult to put into a Mk2 shell.

The wiring is fiddly but it's doable, my old GT engine is currently being transplanted into a Mk2. The guy doing it posted pics of the wiring looms next to each other and the GT one is considerably bigger than the Coupe S one.

All Mk3 fuel tanks are the same, even the lift pump in the tank is the same whether you have a 1.0 or a G40. It's the inline pump that's different. The multipoint engined Polos all have the same pump, this is what you need. Single point ones don't produce as much fuel pressure.

The most helpful person as far as this conversion goes is a guy on Porka.net called Alan Lawrence. Goes by the username Poloace. He's done this conversion twice, to an early and a late spec Coupe S and is very helpful and easy to talk to. Plus he'll be able to furnish you with a chip for £30 which will give you some more poke!

Engine for sale - check this:

£150 is a complete bargain, mileage is good for the year, and I've seen it, it is mint. Buy it!!! :D

I already spied that engine.....but sadly it has gone...even tho i offered £50 more than his best offer

Thats exactly what i thourght, hopefully the loom wont be to much of a nightmare.....but i thort it would be one of the hardest parts!! damm

I have spied a complete GT in south wales with 70,000 miles on it but the bodywork fu**ed !! This seems like a bargin to me......i really want it and have told him so but no reply as yet :?

i also have spoken to Alan but not in much detail....ive seen his conversion on polo-gt.co.uk....thats what help me decided its the best course of action!!

cheers for you reply

That's insanely cheap, I've only ever seen one other working GT engine/box go that cheap.

My GT engine, gearbox, wiring loom, driveshafts, mounts and rad sold for the asking price of £250 a little over a month ago - that was bang on the asking price then. There seems to have been a drop in prices to say the least!

think you might want to scrape together the cash for a remote brake servo and possibly some uprated discs/pads at the same time though

as that engine in that frame will be pretty rapid, could be too much for regular polo brakes without any assistance

yeah i def need to

im gunna do the classic VW II calipers upgrade with which means you can use 239x20mm disks......dosent it :?

im still desperate for an enigne and that is first priority!!

im have a few in the pipline that i need to think botu getting

i recon with some simple and slightly more complex tuning you could get that 3F GT engine up to 100b.h.p +

ive got some old audi coupe wheels waiting.....gotta get the correct tyres for them, also got some springs for her to lower 40mm!! The audi wheels are 14's what tyres should i get so it dosent rub at all ??

then hopefully put in the GT lump....and....

Air filter k & N 57i
4-2-1 manifold (cheap one or ashley)
full system ( best for best price)
chip from poloace
268 degree cam (prob schrick)

then when i got a bit more cash......get the head flowed and sorted out, this sould go really well with the cam and other mods giving the little car a bit of poke!!

what ya think ??
