So yeah... some people say a Polo is a girls car
Firstly I dont see why they class it as that and where they get it from.
Secondly, what do you guys think of it when ppl say that?

When you say "Polo" I think it's looked at as being a soft, girly car. Maybe because of how 'soft' the word is - Pppoohhhllllooohhh. It's almost, aww look at that kitten (if you're retarded)
The Polo is bi-sexual, yet I see a lot more male drivers. Hmm.

If someone tells me that, I tend to tell them to stfu
I guess it depends on the colour of the car too, some colours may appear more "girly" than others! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if someone tells you the Polo is a girl's car tell 'em b*******s
I see a lot of old people driving Polos around my area

but when younger drivers are behind the wheel there are more blokes than birds, same as Del pointed out. Still, nice to see a fine young lady piloting a looked-after Polo
Also depends on the model of Polo? If someone asked me which of the models over the years is the 'most' girly, it'd be the 9n IMHO. IMHO!!

Its not as bad as:
"Is that a 1.0L with GTi badges, because they didnt make a polo gti"
"I thought you had a polo, thats a golf"

Hmm.... polo mints are far from girly

And polo the sport is a male orientated game aswell as polo shirts
I must admit, the 9n does look abit girly... but the 6n doesnt look that girly... and the only girls I see driving polos are asian girls

I drive a girls car?
At least we're more likely gonna get girls looking at our car when driving about rather than blokes I suppose!
Having said that I don't think mine does look like a girls car, I think it depends on the colour as well. I usually only see older women in 9n's around here apart from the various GT's I've spotted.

Haha Si, I think people get confused over the size of the car as it's got a little more interior room than the average fiesta or whatever (not much, but some). I've had a few Golf confusions in the past; the GTi badge just seals the deal.
Wonder what those same folk would make of a G40/GT?
I'd say it's definately got a bit of a girly image, along with fiesta, punto, corsa etc, possibly there was a bit more feminine intent/input into it than say a golf or certainly a passat (equality may be all the rage, but you can't deny there's still gender, age etc tailoring going on in car design)... but what of the Jetta?
Out of all of those small cars though I'd say it's the most unisex, and certainly the mk2/3 don't exactly have "soft" styling! Plus the continual supply of sport variations (all the G-types), which seem slightly more plentiful than e.g. Corsa GSi and certainly more so than Fiesta RS, Punto H/GT.
In the end though it's the drivers that make it, and it's a good 50/50 split in this bit of the market, regardless of how they've been designed.
There's far more girly cars around though, how about the Ka, or worse the StreetKa ... I bet it's a cracking drive but you wouldn't see me dead in one. The Kia Picanto, well, just look at the adverts (shame, I don't think it deviates particularly from the unisex mean, but it's STRONGLY marketed to late teen/early 20s young women)... and the Clio too, even with the snorting Williams editions!
I'd say the punto too.
VW still has a couple of fingernails buried in the "car for everyone" ethic that stops them designing and marketing their vehicles that way, yet. Even the Lupo, there may have been that advert with it being compared to a baby and the owner being the mother, but it WAS a baby werewolf ...

I asked a girl last night what car i had, she goes erm "a golf?" no "a polo" yes, who makes them? "er, golf?"

stuart come on man, you know you werent going to get a straight answer (i wonder what she puts when applying for insurance, tax, etc? ... assuming she realises these things are required that is)
there's a large slice of the female driving community for whom there are only three brands of car - ugly, cute and so-so - and seven models - red, blue, yellow, green, black, white, and silver.
which is why the polo did so well as it was one of the few cars to offer all those colours
if im to be perfectly honest it's probably about the same amount of blokes who think the same way, but they at least make the effort to figure out what car they have so to not lose macho credentials and to make calling the AA a bit easier

Yeh the first question they do ask when u say u have a new car is "What colour is it?" Before they even know what it is
