windows playing up

right , when I got my polo I could put the two front windows up and down fine but the one started to stick a bit then it just stopped working I couldnt put it down from the driver side but could put it up from the passanger side,then the same thing happens to the driver side can put it down unless when opening my door I keep the key turned for a few seconds it goes down and I can put it back up with the switch but cant put it down with the switch!!!
whats going on!

common prob, the switches are crap, had to replace mine more than once

so need to replace the switch on each side? how much for a switch and is it easy to fit? is it called a window switch?

Yup, it's called an electric window switch, VAGParts can do you one for a tenner plus the VAT. Part number 6x0 959 855b
The switches are pants, I actually broke one of mine (although on further inspection it looked absolutely shot to bits!) whilst stripping my door down
