Hello.

Mate is a mechanic and he currently drives a 96 3Dr Civic. He's fitting a nice new engine in it. Ive been down alot giving him loads of help.

Got me thinking when he said - we doing the polo next.

I dont want the GTi engine put into my mk5 (6n2) as i feel its a bit of a waste of time doing all the work for an extra 40 bhp when i could go that little bit more and diffrent.

Question is.. can i fit a bigger engine , poss a golf, TT, passat into the polo more around the 1.8 / 2.0 - or is that too much hassle ?

1.8t conversions have been done quite a few times, it's a lot of work but it does fit quite nicely and it's a very good engine to use. Really though, if you're doing a conversion to anything other than a standard engine you can do more or less anything if you have the time, money and expertise to back it up.

I wouldn't know anything about doing the hardwork, but I bet a 1.8T would be absolutely amazing.

Groovy, have you got any vids of such a conversion?

I've seen a video of an old mini with a Civic 1.6 VTEC engine, that went like excrement off a garden impliment.

There's a video of a mk3 with a rear mounted, rear wheel drive tuned 1.8t t'internet - I've uploaded a copy to my website, you can see it at http://uk-polos.groovycarrot.co.uk/groo ... olo18t.wmv

I'm sure there are vids of later models with the 1.8t somewhere, but I don't know where I'm afraid.

Someone I know has an old Morris Minor with a 5litre TVR Griffith engine in it, never been in it YET, but it sounds awesome, it looks a bit of a s**t but...

christ!!

that's gotta be a "replacing rear seats" jobbie, right? unless it's one of them where the engine dominates the entire front end

that's a monster power plant even in the original car... and there's not tons of room around the 1100cc morris engine to start with!

the 1.6, 2.0 conversions in them are already hella rapid, too, as there's not a great deal of weight to shift, and it's RWD... whoooooo!

and i second the "1.0 badged on ghetto steelies" motion.

The rear seats are gone yeah, now that the TVR running gear has been put in the radiator has been moved to behind the seats basically because there wasn't room in the front anymore.

It was when it was first done, I can't remeber what he done to sort it but it's all good now, the car only has windows on the front, the back is a mesh kind of thing and the side has no windows at all!

my vote goes for putting 1.0 badges on it.
