Hi All,just joined the ranks of the GTI owners .Scared the sh-t out of me,reading about the problems you get with these cars.Unfortunately in the month, iv'e had mine, it's been a pain.Several electrical faults(windows, heated mirrors, radio, ignition s\w,faulty camshaft sensor). Also, thought i'd get the cam belts etc changed, for peace of mind. After it was done,it had a misfire,Took a week,to trace it to a misalighned hydraulic valve lifter. All i need now is for the pedal box and clutch,to go,and i'll have the full set.Still, the few times i have, got to drive the car ,its bloody brilliant.By the way, it's a 2000 model, black with 50K on the clock.Sorry to have gone on so much.Cheers.

It's alright dude, the forum here is for your use to vent your anger, share your hapiness and joy and also as therapy! ha ha ha, just kidding!

Sorry to hear about all the problems you are experiencing, I think most owners of the GTI have experienced one or more of those faults you have listed so you aren't alone (although that isn't really good enough, if all owners have had some problem it must mean that the levels of quality at VW are dropping). I think it is just fortunately that the car is such a great car to drive and also to look at otherwise they would be still in the dealers forcourts!

Once everything's been sorted it'll be all fine and dandy and you you think all those problems have faded...good luck with the car!

Welcome to the forum mate. Unfortunately, as cyhliu says, most owners have experienced most of the problems you mentioned. Personally, I've had a few additional ones as well including the internal CV joint on the drive shaft (?) exploding twice and bearings going. I had no idea whether the pedal box had been done but VW have just written to me to book it in for the work.......so that'd be a no then :? .

Every time something goes wrong with it, I swear i'm gonna sell  , but there's nothing as well built and specced out there for the money, not even close :) . I'm sure things will settle down soon, by the sounds of it the car will be almost brand new by the time everythings fixed anyway........

Good luck and enjoy

May I ask you about your "camshaft sensor" problem??
How did you check your "camshaft sensor" fault or not??
If the "camshaft sensor" was fault, what will it cause ??

As I have used VGA-COM to check my Polo GTI before,
Faults Found:
17935 - Camshaft Timing Adj. Bank1 (N205): Short to Ground
P1527 - 35-00 - -
So, I just thonk would I got the same problem with you??
