Driver's door catching bodywork

I've not long had my Polo, and I'd noticed that sometimes when getting out of the car the door felt like it was caught or rubbing. When I had a look I noticed that the top corner of the door is catching the top of the bodywork, and has scratched right through the paint. While this isn't a tragedy, I'd like to stop it happening.
Is there a simple way to raise it a little on the hinges? I did notice at first that the brass-coloured arm (you'll have to forgive me here, I'm not car expert
) that comes from the door and attached to the body was slightly loose at first, but I tightened the 2 bolts and it seems fine. It doesn't appear to be load bearing anyway.
Any ideas?
