Hi ed, and welcome.
The price is above average but if the car really is in excellent, rust free condition with no obvious faults then it could be well worth spending this money to buy it.
Even late model MK3 Polos like this can still be quite rusty. The build quality of these Spanish built car's is not as good as it could be.
Bodywise, check for rust under the battery, around wheel arches, door bottoms and obviously structural areas like sills etc. The rear screen is bonded into the tailgate and its not uncommon for rust to have broken out here causing water leaks into the boot.
Rust is also a problem around the fuel tank filler neck pipe - a new tank is the only option here.
Mechanically they are pretty good, with the only weakness being the head gasket and the front suspension topmounts (both fairly cheap to repair.)
I know it must seem like I'm being really negative here, but I'm just trying to make you aware of the things to look for when buying your first Polo. Buy a good one and you're laughing.
If your potential purchase has none of the above problems (or at least not all of them!) then there is no reason why you shouldn't have a lot of fun with one of these Polo's.
Good luck,
Richard.

Welcome 2 the forum!

I think Breadman has covered all the things you should look out for and as said the price is above average but if its a good 1 then its worth it.
