the rear wipers tend to like to cease in the part which goes through the glass, mine did it twice on my mk4 and ended up leaving it ceased. Was a bit sticky when i i got my 6n2 so oiled it up to prevent this happening

On the subject my rear wiper decided to come on of it's own accord and now will not switch off. I think it may be the relay, does anyone know the exact position so that I can try replacing it????

Maybe you need an exorcist?

ghosts in the electrical system, more common than you might think
all relays are located next to/behind the fuse box area, not sure which relay number it is though

Thanks. I unplugged it for a couple of months and decided to reconnect it last weekend. Guess what the gremlins have gone. Just waiting for their next attack

I got plenty of my own gremlins in my car, its beginning to p iss me off right now. One sits in the engine management, another sucks on the MAP sensor, and there is a gremlin that spins round on the starter motor now, you can here him go "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee he he he he" when you pull the starter.

I think its just a dry pinnion. I will spray some grease on it.
I had the starter get stuck on in the old beetle days. It would crank over slower and slower until the battery lead melted!
