Quite a common problem, chances are u dont need a new throttle body, just need it realigned and cleaned but no chance VW are gunna do that... far too dirty for them... Go somewhere else for a second opinion.

Thats because VW have to reset the ECU.
Well, they do on the 16v cable throttle, just re-read yours is a 8v.

or at least clear the fault code and see if it comes back?

they can't reset it cause the fault code keeps coming back !!!!!!

If you do buy a new one (or even get a half decent second hand one) can I have your old one - please don't throw it away......

Just in case you are wondering it's a favorite trick of mine is to get them bored out to a bigger diameter and fit a new butterfly (larger) but I need one to inspect and see how much I can improve it by......

I don't think it gives much more bhp but it normally improves the torque and drivability

So do you want to sell the old one to me then?

As I said in a previous post I want to see if

- It can be swaped with one on a 1.6L 8V (so a loose TB would be handy to take to the scrappies to compare)

or

- It can be overbored and fitted with a new butterfly sized to suit

As a result I don't want to spend a lot of cash on something that may well not be possible

Depends - this is just a look see to see if I can help everyone get a bit more poke out of the 1.4 8V engines - I'm hoping you have a 1.4 AEX engine for starters as that means I can at least try it out on mine :?

if you don't have a 1.4 AEX engine I'll need to see if they are the same TB's on different engines but VAGparts should help there with a check on the part numbers across all the engine codes..

how does a Fiver plus postage sound? - thats about all I want to spend on a scrap one and I hope you understand why now

- it's gonna take 10 mins to work out if it can be bored out by any beneficial amount and £40 to get it bored if it is worth it and all that depends on if its from an AEX engine and if it isn't if it will fit at all

I need to understand why yours is fubar too cos no point boring out a duff one is there?

My suspiscions are excess play on the spindle leading to air leaks and poor performance/mpg but until I see it I can't even guess
