Tyres

Just spoke to a guy at the garage about fitting alloys for my polo. I mentioned i wanted low profile tyres 195/45/15.

Problem is he says they use Marshall or Federal tyres which i am sure are low grde budget tyres. I could upgrade to yokohama's but they, i've heard, have terrible grip in wet.....

Need some guidance.

Yokos aren't that bad in the wet, my a539's are pretty good actually

the best tyres i've ever had were Falken ze-502's or 512's

I fitted Toyo T1S all round, but given the UK's climate, perhaps F1s are the better choice  plus they will last longer therefore costing less over the long run and getting you more mileage over the softer rubber of the Toyo tyres

I've not had any experience of the Federal budgets but had Marshalls on my old Mini, however that had 38bhp and didn't struggle for grip like the Polo would have :P

Goodyears are the pick of the bunch IMHO.

With only 60 bhp my car doesn't trouble khumos but so I found out at the Polo show the GTi gives them a real hard time!!!!

On the other side of the coin I had a few journeys on some Toyo Pro X's on a set of tatty BBS RX's and they were very hard to unstick but I didn't try real hard

My only advice is avoid firestones they have never mad a good tyre in my opinion

I like Goodyears - F1's and NCT are both good

I have always had bad experiences with Michelins but inherited a set of pilots for the first time on a 250bhp Vauxhall and I like them - I like them a lot - Only ones I had experiences were MXV's and they didn't grip at all

Bridgestones and Goodyears on my trackday tool - doesn't suffer from lack of grip - bhp it does lack!!!

Depends on what you want choice will always be

Grip at the expense of tyre life and increase in price

Tyre life but at the expense of grip but hell they were cheap

You pays yer money and take that choice untill some manufacture gives you both at a competative price, when that happens there will be pigs flying over the M1 and the moon will be blue and made of stilton!!!

Bridgestone Potenza are a great all round tyre plus they have rim protection for about £50 each, check out mytyres.com they have test results on some of the tyres they sell, which is intersting.
