CLICKING NOISE

Earlier i went out in my motor to find a clicking noise, its sort of sounds almost like when a wheel is scrubbing against something (but its very light, say if a tyre is rubbing against a piece of paper stuck in the arch and is making contact with the tyre) but its not that. Its the drivers side rear wheel and it makes this noise in relation to the rotation. Ive check the tyre and clearance and everything seems fine, as does the pressure e.t.c. Any ideas what it might be, i beleive it may be something mechanical

p.s i jacked the car up and rotated the front wheels a while ago, you get a slight creaking noise on the front when you begin to rotate, but after that no noise. The back wheels i didnt do, and it seems to be from the back. but i rotated the tyres around, including the rear ones, but it still makes this light clicking noise. It is really only heard when i have my window down full, otherwise there is nothing

it isn't something daft like a loose wheel bolt, or centre cap or something? or even a nail in the tyre?

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Hope it aint a nail, bloody new 195/45/15 tyres, they cost me alot a few weeks ago!!

as for the center cap all nice and tight. The alloys were only installed about 100-150 miles ago complete with new bolts. I was told to check and ensure that the bolts were tightened to the correct torque as they have the tendancy to become slightly loosened when new. was slightly off torque but i am keeping an eye on this.

Let me try and describe it a bit better. Say there is a really really sticky patch on the tyre thread area, (something like the aftermath of a really sticky tyre sticker or something!) well everytime the wheel rolls it sounds like this patch is sticking to the road and this noise is sort of continuing with the rotation. It aint the crap off a sticker though.

I washed by wheels and tyres throughly today, and i aint heard it today much, but it does tend to go away then come back.

I dont think its a wheel bearing though, or could it be? as i always thought a wheel bearing would be more of a humming noise?

yes a bearing would also get worse depending on which way you were turning and putting load on the wheel....

check for nails!

swap front and rear wheels around - that will eliminate the wheel or bearing

do you have a small stone stuck in the tread

could possibly have been, ive washed the tyres out completely, blasted them with low pressure wash and they seem to be fine now, probably just something that got stuck on it, or as you said could well be a few stones. Im still gonna monitor it though and see how it goes.

Cheers for the help guys. :D
