hello need help got a mk 2 polo H reg need a new back box but garage seems 2think i hav a cat on it but they didnt come on till K regs

if its a mk2 with round headlights then it doesnt have a cat. if its a mk3 with rectangular headlights it has a cat, and both cars were made on H reg plates

Some mk2s had catalytic convertors as an optional extra, but it'll have a catalyst badge on the back if it does. If it doesn't have the badge, it'll just be a normal exhaust.

First point - I have had 1989 G cars with cats so don't think that they weren't fitted till the deadline date - Volvo and Vauxhall both started fitting them well before the deadline date!!!

Second point - Regardless of it has a cat or it doesn't the law on emissions means that up untill 92 K plate cars (so anything up to and including 92 J)

If they aren't there then they can't be tested

If they are there and the car fails the emmisions most garages will fail the car and ask you to replace it with a new one - YOU DO NOT have to do this - tell them that it was blocked and you have put a bar through the centre of the internals so technically it's not a cat anymore and being older than 1992 K it don't legally need to be fitted with one

just makin sure exhaust is special order of 120quids with the cat im sharin car wiv grandfather so wa he says goes @ da mo lol.... but i'll b gettin the car soon . put my stuff in there ...seat covers.... cd player + 10 disc changer... changed the gear leather n knob..... hand brake maybe next dunno yet need ££££'s. had 4new tires recently.....
