Hi its Wez from UK-mkivs. The central locking on my girlfriends polo has packed up. The alarm still arms but cant lock or unlock. Also even when using the Key it only opens the one door!

This proved rather anoying when wanting to fill with Petrol as we couldnt get into the flap. Now she is using my Golf till i sort the problem.

As you can imagine id like it back ASAP! lol Ive checked the fuses and they seem fine i was hoping you guys could shed a little light??
Thanks,
Wez

apparently you can still get into the fuel cap, you have to get to it through the boot or something - there's a post about it somewhere here.
I'm guessing your central locking pump is shot, can you hear any noise when you turn the key (i.e. can you hear the pump?) if you can hear the pump, then perhaps one of the tubes has split or some off the pump - time to investigate

Nice one cheers ill have a look for the boot post. As for the noise there isnt any noise at all

So it looks like it could be the pump. Would VagCom bring up the error?
Cheers!

defo the pump at fault here - water has got in the rear light and soaked the poor thing

take of the cover from the base if you can and try let it dry out natually next to a radiator, hopefully it will dry out and work again, else a replacment is needed
you can manually open the flap, from inside the boot first aid area, by pulling the pin, try a search for the info, or let me know I will post a guide for you
vag-com would not show the error, as there is no computer in the pump, then again the will have a convenience module, as it has an alarm?
thanks
p.s. yours should work, to open the flap

look in the boot, its behind a trim piece, normally where the first aid kit is stored, on the drivers side of the car
hope helps

The part number i have here is 1H0 962 257 J and im looking at getting a 1H0 962 257 G that i have found.
The pins are like this on the J

Click Pic.
Ive marked the Pins Red and the Holes Yellow to make it easier to see.
DubLass - the pump is on the right hand side behind the First Aid cover. Near where the bottom of the rear light cluster is.

Hey,
I had a similar problem, went to the scrappy and they tested a few pumps on the car. The golf mk3 works perfectly even thought it has a few less pins ( if my memory serves me right). If you can take the polo and get them to test before you buy you can be sure.
Did you let the old pump to dry and then sprayed it with some WD40? sometimes it works
A new pump from VW is 200 €. At the scrap yard it's about 15 €
As Speedlaw once said
This IS in fact the central locking pump, I just checked. The part has been replaced with another version (ending on J instead of D) and costs around €190 (about 120 Pounds) new. So, as long as it functions - keep it.

I Can also say as mentioned, that the last letter of the part number makes no difference. They all have the basic pins for controlling the Central locking no matter what. Some have more, some have less, but it really does not matter. As long as the main number is the same that is fine. You can find these in mk4 Polos, Corrados, Ventos, MK3 Golfs, so shouldnt be a problem to source. If you pull it out of the scrappies and its out of a Golf, make sure you also get the nice little foam enclosure as these commonly suffer from water damage. Probably even wiser to renew the light seal on that side too.

What is the missing pin for though? Must be for something.... m8 if you can tell me the exact pin number (should be numbers on the pump or the corresponding connecting loom) I can work out which colour wire should be there and then try look it up on a wiring diagram to see what it does... mainly cos im wondering hehe
Thankfully confirmed that the Golf one will do the job, but I still want to know
AKs plan is a good one - renew the light seal, defo the entry point of the water

Well the 1H0 962 257 G has turned up ill hook her up when the Missus gets back from Work. Ill let you know how she goes...
But it would be nice to hear what the Different pins are for!
G has all pins 1-12 so it should do the job!
