Engine Oil -TDi

)
I need to top up the oil in my car according to my dash - didn't have a chance to check the oil spec so rang VW as i had to book the car in anyway for something they were meant to fix last time....
They told me i need PD Oil 50-51 Semi Synthetic.
For a litre of the stuff is £18.31 - i refuse to pay this price - is there anywhere else i can buy the stuff??

I haven't found an aftermarket pd oil, but would it be cheaper going to Skoda, Seat or even vagparts?
BTW - You should try to check your oil on a regular basis, as all the pd engines I've had, have used alot. (I think the handbook mentions how much it can use).
Let us know how you get on though.

Yer i checked it about 2 weeks ago and it was in the middle section or B as the handbook says.
Am gonna pop to halfords in a bit to see what they have.

How many miles can i do safely with the light on?

Woohoo blaggin stuff rocks!!!!
Went into parts and asked for some oil and they told me there were out of stock - i said well how long can i drive it with the light on bearing in mind its been on for a few days now?
He dissappeared for a few mins and came out with a jug and tissue and went and filled it up for me (no need to get my hands dirty yippeee) and cost me nothing!!
As soon as i drove out the fuel light appeared! DOH ... I scaried to fill up incase another light appears when the fuel one goes out!

My Passat has the 130pd engine, as had the previuos one. My old one had covered 55,000 miles and I never paid for oil...just called into the dealership and they topped it up FOC!!! All part of their service
The new one came with a litre of oil in the boot, of which I used half a litre a couple of weeks ago...at 22,000 miles.
